Nobus Machine Images (NMI)

Easy to use

You must specify a NMI when you launch an instance. Several instances requiring the same configuration, can be launched from a single NMI. Otherwise, different NMIs should be used.

You can connect to your instance after you launch from a NMI then use the instance like you use any other server. Custom NMI or NMIs can be made by you, to enable the launch of a new instance containing everything you need.

After creating a NMI, you can keep it private or you can share it with a specified accounts. Your custom NMI can also be made public for the benefit of the community.

a NMI comprises the following:

  • Single or Several FBS snapshots, or, instance-store-backed NMIs, a template for the root volume of the instance.

  • A block device mapping that specifies the volumes to attach to the instance at launch time.

How to Create Your Own NMI

You can launch an instance from an existing NMI, customize the instance, and then save this updated configuration as a custom NMI. Instances launched from this new custom NMI include the customizations that you made when you created the NMI.

The root storage device of the instance determines the process you follow to create a NMI. The root volume of an instance is either a NobusFBS volume or an instance store volume.

To create a NobusFBS-backed NMI, see How to Create a NobusFBS-Backed Linux NMI. To create a Instance Store-backed NMI, see How to Create an Instance Store-Backed Linux NMI.

Copying a NMI

You can share a NMI with another Nobus account. Sharing a NMI does not affect the ownership of the NMI. While you ( the source account ) is incur a standard NobusFBS fees, the target account is charged for the storage.

Note

You must be granted a read permissions by the source owner for the storage that backs the NMI, The key(s) must be disclosed too.
